Art and evolution

My work is ever evolving. I continue to allow myself the creative fredom to take my work in whatever direction seems the most true to myself. After attending the Dallas art fair last weekend, Saturday April 11th I became even more aware of the diversity of work being created in the world today. It seems that no matter what direction you take with your work there will always be an audience. I believe as long as you stay true to yourself, your work will find its fans.

In my recent work I have been simplifying my forms. With the narration of figures I continue to tell ambiguous stories.

Deceptive Embrace was featured in Ro2 Arts gallery space along with an earlier painting from a few years back Secrets to Hidden Identity.

The concept of my work is similar but my style is evolving. The simplification of form feels more natural. It seems that when I focus more on traditionally technicality it henders my creativity. When in reality for me, the purpose of art is to express an emotional idea or feeling; the traditional techniques are not necessary.   I feel this simplification calms my work and creates a more direct feeling for the viewer.

Who knows, two weeks from now I might start striving for the rendering styling of Carravagio, but today simplification is the natural direction for me.

Animal Instinct review on Dallas Voice

"We all put on masks we show to others, but TJ Griffin is someone who makes a living at showing his masks. At least, those are his current preoccupation. The out artist’s latest collection of works, Called Animal Instinct, focuses on abstract graphic ideas, especially fantastical imagery and, of course, masks. The exhibition will be on display at Ro2Art Downtown’s Akard Street gallery for a month, with an opening night reception Friday. Don’t forget to wear a smile!"

Playing around in the studio

I have started creating some photographic patterns with some of my toys. I am using an app on my phone. I plan on doing some more of these with a little nicer camera and lighting.

Inspiration

I have been collecting some toys for inspiration in my animal instinct series. Most of which came from Toy Joy in Austin TX, one of my favorite places. Inspiration can always be found there.
